I just wanted to say how great it’s been to see so many people jump into this discussion—honestly, one of the highest levels of engagement I’ve seen in my time here.
After the original post, we had a big group chat on Discord to dive deeper into everyone’s thoughts, which brought out some really valuable feedback from the community. There’s also been some great back-and-forth in the public Telegram governance channel, and many of you even took the time to DM me with your ideas and perspectives.
After hearing from so many of you, it’s clear that the community wants SNF to stay strong and sustainable during this interim period, and most agree that the tax is a good move for now.
Transparency is very important to keep the trust flowing, so we’ll have our Q3 report ready to share by the end of October. We’ll also lay out our plan to grow the ecosystem and boost our KPIs, with the help of the tax.
The proposal is up if you want to check it out: Mintscan
Thank you all for the time, energy, and thought you’ve put into this—your input is truly appreciated, and the conversation is always welcome.
Personally I would need to see a clear roadmap for approval based on the needs of the community, asking for community money and basically not saying much about what you’re actually going to do doesn’t seem ideal to me.
The price isn’t great, and the communication from Slabs about their new direction has been unclear, which makes some of this hard to gauge. That said, if SNF doesn’t get the tax, they certainly won’t make it past a couple months. Since we’re this close to the wire, I’ll vote yes to keep things going for now. But I expect whats being worked on to ship by December/January— otherwise we should fire everyone, shut down the chain, and move on with our lives.
Why close the chain? The end of Foundation wouldn’t mean the end of Secret Network, just that there wouldn’t be much user support available and marketing would go to 0.
The problem I have is that from my point of view Foundation resources are not allocated properly and efficiently, how much money has DeCC cost us already and how many applications with at least some userbase use it?
The only work I’ve seen in the last year from Foundation that I’ve seen as even a little bit effective is some upgrades for Secret Dashboard from Alex which I very much appreciate ( although there’s still work to be done )
Personally I see the importance of the foundation, but without the Roadmap it is clear NO for me.
To go along with the tax proposal, here is the outline of the growth plan I’ve been working on. Look forward to hearing ideas and creative approaches to growth from the community!
Secret Network Growth Plan Q4 2024
The growth plan has two prongs, the token plan and the utility plan. Each has its own KPIs. The plan is structured in funnels - each element relates to a specific section of the funnel as marked. Strategically, the plan is intended to focus attention on the growth of the community while building valuable utility and long term ecosystem growth plays for the longevity of the chain. Also note that this plan does not contain the strategy for new tech built in the future - that plan will be separate and tailored to the specifics of the tech.

Increase number of token holders

Cross-Chain Support Expansion (middle)
Engage developers from other ecosystems (EVM, Solana, new IBC etc.) using SecretPath.
Bring DeCC to all of Web3.
Help integrate new cross-chain bridging/messaging protocols like Wormhole and Union, giving developers access to new tools and users access to new tokens and sources of liquidity.
Wallet support expansion
Developer Onboarding (middle)
We’ll continue to support both native and cross-chain developer onboarding through hackathons, workshops, community calls, and writing documentation.
Direct onboarding of new builders

This growth plan is comprehensive and well-structured. I truly believe these strategies will positively impact the entire Secret Network ecosystem, from expanding the community to advancing DeCC and utility across Web3. Looking forward to seeing the momentum build and supporting this vision every step of the way.
